Additional Dental Services
Damascus Dental Group offers a variety of additional services for our patients, including equipment ranging from athletic guards for mouth protection to snore guards for oral appliance therapy. Check out our wide range of appliances that provide holistic care for the entire family.
Night Guards and Bite Splints
Mouth guards and bite splints are designed to protect teeth and gums from excessive wear or damage. While the devices are often used interchangeably, they serve quite different purposes.
A night guard is worn while sleeping and protects your teeth from being worn down due to unintentional grinding, clenching, or biting.
A bite splint, also known as a bite guard, TMJ guard, or occlusal splint, functions similarly to a night guard in that it protects your teeth as you sleep. Additionally, it guides the movement of your jaw, allowing it to settle into a most comfortable and natural position.
Athletic Mouth Protectors (Mouthguards)
A mouth guard does just what it sounds like — it guards your teeth. The appliance is commonly required when playing sports by both children and adults. It prevents teeth from getting cracked, chipped, or knocked out from contact with another player, a ball or puck, etc. They can also help prevent injuries to the lips, tongue, jaw, and face. Mouthguards are crucial for players of high-impact, high-contact sports like football, basketball, wrestling, hockey, and boxing. Studies show that jaw and mouth injuries are more common than any other type of trauma experienced by athletes. Furthermore, the ADA recommends wearing a properly fitted mouthguard to reduce the incidence and severity of oral injury in sporting or recreational activities.
Removable Orthodontic Retainers
Once traditional metal braces are removed, our patients receive retainers to stabilize the dental correction. The bone and soft tissues surrounding the teeth stabilize for several months after braces are removed. Therefore, to maintain the alignment, these retainers must be worn as instructed. Unfortunately, failure to wear the retainers may result in movement of the teeth, which could necessitate re-treatment. We recommend that a patient should wear retainers all the time for one year following the removal of braces. After approximately one year, the patient can wear the orthodontic retainer only at night.
Snore Guards
It is estimated that more than 90 million North Americans snore. A snore guard fits over your teeth like an orthodontic retainer and is worn while you sleep. It supports your jaw in a forward position to keep your airway open. This custom-fit oral appliance improves your sleep, restores your alertness, and revitalizes your health. Treating your snoring can make you feel like a new person. You may find that your partner begins to sleep better, too! With our qualified dentist’s help, you can improve your sleep and your health!
Snore Guards are part of oral appliance therapy and are an effective, non-invasive treatment that fits easily into your lifestyle. Our patients like using the appliance because it is:
